From the supplier: Defects in crib design result in 50 infant deaths per year in the US, but manufacturers continue to be reluctant to make changes that will improve safety. In 1973, laws were enacted to restrict the size of spaces between vertical slats and certain cutouts in the headboard. Babies still suffocate when their clothing catches on protrusions in and on the crib. Infants are particularly vulnerable because they do not have the strength to extricate themselves once caught. Lawsuits brought against crib manufacturers because of death or injury will help prevent future occurrences.
